FAQ

Why are you getting married in the Pines?

We have spent the last four Summers with each other in Fire Island Pines, and some of our greatest moments together have happened here.  Lying on the beach wrapped in each others’ arms, moonlit walks home from Cherry Grove, pool parties, dancing till dawn, dinners on the roof overlooking the Pavilion, and, of course, our amazing friends … all these things make Fire Island Pines one of the most important places in our hearts.  We can think of no other spot that means as much to both of us and we are so honored to share our special day with you here.

What should I wear to the wedding?

We would never, ever dictate what you wear, but we recommend Summer Cocktail attire.

Ladies, we all love stilettos (we have a few pair ourselves) but keep in mind you’ll be walking and dancing on boardwalks and wooden pool decks where it’s easy for very skinny heels to slip into and get stuck in cracks.

Where can I get some sun?

No matter where you are on the island, the beach is only seconds away.  Voted the best gay beach in the world, this white sandy layout spot is packed with some of the hottest eye candy you’ve ever seen … oh and the beach is pretty too.  The ocean can be cold and the currents strong, so we don’t recommend swimming if you’re faint of heart, but it is the ideal place to watch and be watched.

If the beach isn’t your thang (you know, sometimes sand gets in the most uncomfortable places), fear not because pools are all over the Pines.  There is a community pool next to the Botel with a bar, waiters in skimpy shorts, and some of the yummiest frozen cocktails around.  The Madison has a private pool which all of our guests are welcome to use … and best of all, it’s heated!  They also have a great hot tub and roof decks to get some sun on.

What if I feel like eating?

If you’re one of those who needs to eat on the island, we won’t judge you (and no we weren’t just rolling our eyes).  There are a few options for you: The Blue Whale offers a Boozy Brunch on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays with unlimited mimosas, bellinis, and bloody marys, as well as dinner every night from 8:30-11PM.  The Canteen is perfect for morning coffees, croissants, burgers, fries, deli sandwiches and other quick bites.  The Pines Bistro is the fancy Italian restaurant next to Sip n Twirl and open for dinner only.  Lastly you have Pines Pizza but we’re not really sure what they serve there … hmm?

Did someone say Tea Dance?

Like to mingle?  Like to dance?  Like to drink?  Then the Tea Dance is the place for you.  This is the spot for the gays and the gals to dress in their skimpiest tank tops and shortest shorts and squeeze into three different bars/decks/dance floors to shake it and booze it up.  At 5PM you start with Low Tea at the Blue Whale.  Then at 7PM you move to High Tea on the top floor of the Pavilion or TwrilLina at Sip ‘N Twirl.  And for your night owls, the party really gets started at 1AM at the Pavilion night club.

What is Cherry Grove?

Another “gayborhood” on the island is Cherry Grove.  This is an older, quainter section of Fire Island with a ton of charm, uniqueness, and personality.  There are many more options for restaurants and bars here as well another community pool (with cheaper drinks!).  There are a couple ways to get to the Grove: by Water Taxi which leaves from the Pantry every 30 minutes or so, walking along the beach, or if you’re very adventurous … cutting through the Meat Rack.  The water taxi takes about 10 minutes and walking takes 20 minutes more or less depending where you’re starting from.

Will there be boys in dresses?

You can’t throw a stone in the Pines without knocking a queen’s wig off.  Drag Shows are everywhere here and you have to see at least one before you leave.  The best venues are by the community pools (both in the Pines and Cherry Grove) in the early afternoons, at the Blue Whale (the Boozy Brunch show and the after dinner show around 11PM), and pretty much every bar in the Grove.

What if I want to work up a sweat?

So you can’t get away from your workout routine for even one day, huh?  The Pines has a full gym with daily passes along with group fitness classes at the Pavilion.  Our friend Daniel Smith even leads yoga classes on the beach occasionally.  Let us know if you’re interested in that and we’ll get you info.

Should we bring gifts?

By no means are we asking for gifts, but many of you have wanted to know if we are registered somewhere.  We’re lucky to have a nice home full of everything we need, so we’ve set up this honeymoon registry to help us fulfill a dream of going to Europe.
